Hello friends!

If you believe life is a journey filled with wonderful sights, delicious and aromatic foods, unique and colorful people and wonders yet to be discovered and experienced by you…then you are right where you should be.

Welcome to A Bite On The Road. My name is Shelly and I’ve thrilled you have stopped by.

Do You Desire To Make A Change?

Truth be know, I’ve wanted to begin a blog about four years ago. I started, stopped, and started again…but just couldn’t figure out how to make all the pieces fit together.

In my real life I was an Operations Coordinator for a busy construction company who worked 8-10 hours a day beginning at 6 a.m. I enjoyed the work, but I wanted to live my dream of travel writing.

My desired to slow down and experience this journey called life was overshadowed by my own insecurities and lack of know-how. I wasted 4 years wishing instead of doing!

Then one day, not too long back, I watched a blogging video and thought, “If so many other’s have created successful blog sites, have quit their day time jobs and began living their own dreams…then I can too“.

So I joined a group of other wanna-be bloggers, led by one very successful blogger, and here I am designing my own life’s story. It’s funny, my dream was right there within my grasp. All I had to do was reach for it. If it’s your dream as well, you can too. Tons and tons of people have already done it. Imagine, just simple words and photos put together in a thread can get you the life-style income you desire. You deserve to live a life you love.

A Little About Me

I’m a lacto-ovo-pescatarian (which basically means I eat anything but walkers and flyers) self proclaimed gypsy, wife, mother of two, and major travel buff. I enjoy cooking, reading, stamp and coin collecting (thanks Dad!) and everything Disney. My goal is to bring out your inner sojourner with the narratives and photos from my travels And then, perhaps, to inspire you to dust yourself off, pick yourself up and embrace your unique story, the awesomeness that you were created to be and to help you build the foundation to live the life of your dreams.

I was born and raised in California and after many moves across the U.S. and to Europe, I’m back in California where I live with my husband, Derek.

A Case Of Wanderlust

Growing up as a military brat I was instilled a mindset of hard work, but I was always quite restless. After leaving my parent’s home I often found myself moving from place to place…transferring to where my job would allow within the United States. To be sure, I had severe case of wanderlust!

Armadale Castle, the Isle of Skye, Scotland

In doing so I was able to explore 31 continental U.S. states, plus Hawaii. Additionally, I traveled to Canada, Mexico and spent an amazing 11 months on the Italy’s largest island, Sicily.

Six Years Calling Italy Home

Later, in 2002, I moved back to Italy, this time to Tuscany, where I resided in a picturesque little town just minutes away from Florence and Vinci and a stone’s throw from Pisa, Livorno and the crystal blue waters of the Mediterranean Sea.

During my nearly six years in Italy I was able to explore the various regions and take a leisurely road trip over the Italian Alps, through breath-taking scenery that led me to the Imperial Capital of Austria, through the glorious sights of Prague in the Czech Republic, and through all of the amazing and wonderful sights both old and new throughout Europe. I have a bucket list of the places I didn’t get to see, as well as those I loved so much I wish to return.

To Scotland And Beyond

Fast forward to 2012 when I was reunited with my high school sweetheart, Derek, who proposed to me in front of Cinderella’s Castle in Disneyland. (To read about planning for your Disney trip click here.) We planned a destination wedding and married at Armadale Castle on the Isle of Skye in Scotland. The Scotland sky sits low to the earth giving the impression you could quite literally step right into heaven. It was the perfect place for my new fairy tale life to begin.

The world is a wonderful place. There’s marvel’s to see around every corner, both in your town and around the globe. There is so much to experience and it’s amazing to know that no one on earth could ever see the world with exactly the same perspective as you. So rouse your soul as we are going to have an adventure together! I hope that my love of great food, travel and adventure will inspire you to seek out the places you dream of going and make them your reality.

As always, be well. Try new things and look for the beauty in everything and everyone you come across. Remember always…happiness starts here.
